9 things you should never clean with baking soda
Whether it’s whitening your teeth or lightening your dark circles, baking soda has long been the favorite product of homemade beauty tips aficionados. But this white whitening powder can also be a useful product to maintain your home on a daily basis. Effective in cleaning surfaces, baking soda has earned its reputation as an alternative solution for cleaning your home in a healthy way. However, there are some non-recommended uses that can eventually damage your objects due to the abrasive nature of this chemical. Here are 9 things you should never clean with baking soda.
Initially, baking soda is known to be a system D solution for whitening teeth and protecting gums. Also popular for lightening purplish rings, baking soda is also a product for taking care of your interior. However, if the latter is used to clean surfaces or eliminate odours in the refrigerator, there are uses that can damage your utensils on a daily basis because of its abrasive properties. Here are 9 things you should never clean with baking soda.
1-Ceramic pots
If the product is used to polish kitchen equipment, this tip can damage your ceramic pots. Applying baking soda to this object may cause an unsightly white layer and streaks that are difficult to remove. If you are suggested this alternative technique, decline politely and prefer oil.
2-Your skin
Some beauty magazines talk about baking soda as a homemade lotion to get rid of acne. However, this trick can cause skin reactivity, which, when sensitized, can lead to rosacea or painful inflammation. This treatment is not recommended because it has an abrasive effect that is not very effective in treating acne and blemishes.
3-Silverware
Please do not clean up your past treasures with baking soda as it can tarnish your valuable services! Silver can lose its pretty patina and create unsightly streaks. To clean your antique objects, use wax specially designed for silver objects or take them to an antique dealer.
4-The wooden furniture
Wood is a fragile material and not suitable for an abrasive substance such as sodium bicarbonate. The latter tarnishes your furniture and may cause permanent streaks. To clean them, there is wax to polish the wood.
5-Marble
This trick has long been praised as a D system for cleaning this precious surface. And that’s absolutely not a good idea. Using sodium bicarbonate for this household task may not only dull the marble but also make it more porous.
6-Glass objects
Another use that can seriously damage your dishes due to the abrasive nature of bicarbonate. And for good reason, the latter creates visible streaks on glass objects. Instead, use white vinegar for a gentle cleaning.
7-Aluminium objects
Cleaning aluminum objects with baking soda is a bad idea. This cleaning alternative tarnishes these objects which can oxidize due to their aluminum content.
8-Your hair
Due to the abrasive properties of sodium bicarbonate, it is not recommended for your hair. This chemical degrades the lipid film naturally secreted by your scalp (sebum) and may dry out or weaken your hair.
9-Gold plated objects
Baking soda is far too abrasive to clean your golden objects and can damage them. Choose an alcohol- and water-based solution. Mix mineral water and alcohol equally and then clean your object with a cloth dampened with this mixture. Then rinse under water and dry with a clean towel.
